LITTLE CAPTAINS HALF-MILER

____

NOVEMBER 8, 2015 | 10:00 AM

It's never too early to be a captain. This is one of the highlights of the day, where kids (both young and old) can dash a 1/2 mile with Captain Chris, and finish in front of onlookers inside Pomoco Stadium. Parents may choose to run with their child if he or she needs help staying on course or is under 4 years old. Otherwise, we encourage you to stay at the start / finish line area to get great pictures!

SPONSORS

____

Flat–Out Events wants to change lives. Yes, we are an event management company specializing in running events, but our passion is to influence people. Being a part of the running and walking community has impacted our lives tremendously and it gives us great joy to pass that influence along through our events.
Doing this requires a team! We would like you to consider joining our team and partnering with us on this mission.

We cannot put on the best races without our sponsors. Our sponsorship levels are designed to make our sponsors an integral part of the event.

Sponsorship doesn't have to be monetary. An in-kind donation of products or services may be just as valuable. Does your business have something to offer? Can products or services be used as an incentive to participants? Be creative - there are countless ways to create mutually beneficial partnerships!

For more information on how to get your business involved, contact us at raceteam@flatoutevents.com.

VOLUNTEER

____

Without our volunteers, our events wouldn't happen. Volunteering places you in an incredibly fun and energetic environment. Sound like something you would want to be a part of?
Scroll through the volunteer opportunities below and then email us at raceteam@flatoutevents.com. Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about helping out!

Registration and Packet Pick-Up

We have lots of opportunities for volunteering the week before the race!

Packet Pickup
Volunteers are needed to work the registration tables, greet runners and distribute pre-registration packets and shirts on Friday and Saturday (Point 2 Running Company, Newport News.

Friday, November 6, Newport News (Point 2 Running Company):
12 pm – 6 pm, Eight at a time, in shifts

Saturday, November 7, Newport News (Point 2 Running Company):
10 am – 5 pm, Six at a time, in shifts.

Volunteer Hospitality Team

We need volunteers to take care of our volunteers! Help our Volunteer Coordinator take care of all of the volunteers and direct them to where they need to go. Make sure everyone has a smile on their face and are ready to work!
Volunteers Needed: 4
Hours: Sunday, 05:30 am - 10:00 am

Gear Check

So what DO runners do with their keys, cell phones and sunglasses? Leave them with Gear Check, of course! Volunteers needed to receive athletes' personal gear, bag it, mark it, and store it at race start-up and release it back the finish.
Volunteers Needed: 6
Hours: Sunday, 6:00 am - 10:00 am

Course Marshals

Ever want to be a Marshal? These folks are positioned at specific areas and intersections on the race route. Your job is to ensure that runners remain safely on the designated route, direct the runners on the course where changes of direction occur and hold back traffic. You are the eyes and ears of the Race Director in case a runner needs help.

Course Marshals will receive instructions and assignments before race start and will be dismissed once the race has finished.
Volunteers Needed: 50
Hours: Sunday, 6:00 am - 10:00 am

Water Stops

Volunteers will set up water stops before the race and staff water stations along the course. You'll hand out water to runners and pick up empty cups and clean up post-race. Enthusiasm a must!
Volunteers Needed: 20
Hours: Sunday, 6:00 am – 10:00 am

Start/Finish Line

Do you like to see runners cross the finish line? This job is for you! Volunteers will direct athletes through the finish chute, encourage them to keep moving and control the chute area. You'll have to (kindly) direct spectators to stay clear of the clock and not crowd the finish line so runners can freely pass through. The best part: distribute water to the runners and direct finishers and spectators to refreshments and post-race activities.
Volunteers Needed: 30
Hours: Sunday, 6:00 am – 10:00 am

Medical Volunteers

Medical Volunteers will provide non-technical support (water, ice, towels) and any other assistance deemed necessary by our contracted Medical Team on site. Certified MD's, RN's/LPN's, EMT's, CMT's are encouraged to contact us at raceteam@flatoutevents.com with details of your medical experience. We love our nurses, medics, techs and docs!
Volunteers Needed: 5
Hours: Sunday, 6:00 am - 10:00 am

Tear-Down

Another bonding opportunity! Volunteers that like to tear things apart (okay, down) will be responsible for helping to clean-up, take equipment down, load it to trailers and trucks and help leave the park as pristine as when we arrived. Volunteers should expect light to moderate lifting.

We would prefer the Tear-Down team to be a part of the Course Marshals as well, as all volunteers must arrive at the same time on Sunday morning.
Volunteers Needed: 8
Hours: Sunday, 6:00 am - 11:00 am

Additional Volunteer Information:

  1. We would love to have our Team Captains have previous race experience in the desired area. But if not, a desire to take charge is a must! Please tell us about your experience when registering.
  2. Please do not bring children under 14 with you when you volunteer!
  3. If you are volunteering on Sunday, please do not plan to run in the race. You will not be able to do both.
